Managing Information Flow (from Dosh Dosh)
This is one of the best posts from one of the best writers on the net when it comes to blogging. I am always in a constant struggle to manage the overwhelming information flow that comes my way. I really like the way Maki has put together his priority list. 1) Breaking News and 2) Must Read are really the only two categories he spends a good amount of time on. The rest he sifts through quickly.
This is really an important concept when you get down to it - for all the reasons that are stated in this post. You must be able to do two things with all the information:
- Use it to your advantage in any way you see fit, and
- Not get fatigued with information overload
This first concept is an “of course” concept. The second concept is one that is often overlooked and Maki addresses this in his post. If you get fatigued or overwhelmed, there is a good chance you will not go back to it and use it. Like anything else in life, if you are not having fun doing the activity or if that activity is constantly tiring you out, you will NOT sustain it long-term. This is the leading cause of procrastination and not following through with your plans and dreams. A real dream-killer in my book.
One must have control over their time and the data flowing through their lives - whether it be online or offline, in order to stay in the game. If you don’t, you will quit and, in my opinion, you should. You must organize, prioritize and accomplish. Very important stuff!!!
The other very important concept here is the amount of data online, if used correctly, can provide so much content and ideas for your blog, website, business, whatever - so long as you know how to use and not get overwhelmed. If you follow some of Maki’s techniques and suggestions in this latest post, you are sure to be on the right path. But don’t stop there. Use your own technique and style that fits your needs and desires. I know I do…
